Akers is actively hiring in Amory, Mississippe due to its central location and strong CDL workforce. However, we welcome applications from qualified candidates anywhere between St. Louis, the Carolinas, and down through the Gulf Coast as this is the main area that will be covered by this operator.

The Grapple Truck Operator will be responsible for transporting and loading railroad materials, including ties, scrap metal, and equipment. This position requires a Class A CDL and the ability to work independently while traveling extensively. Operators will also interact with clients and site personnel, serving as a representative of Akers in the field.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a Grapple Truck – Safely load and transport materials such as railroad ties, scrap metal, and equipment.
  • Secure Loads – Physically strap, tarp, and secure materials for safe transport.
  • Routine Equipment Maintenance – Perform basic repairs, grease and lube equipment, and complete safety inspections.
  • Complete Daily Logs – Maintain accurate records using Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and submit required paperwork.
  • Travel Nationwide – Work on a 14 days on, 7 days off schedule, requiring extensive travel.
  • Professional Client Interaction – Represent Akers when engaging with railroad partners, clients, and site personnel.
  • Follow Safety Regulations – Adhere to all DOT, FRA, and company safety policies.

 

Qualifications

  • Class A CDL Required – Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Heavy Equipment Experience – At least two years of experience operating a grapple truck or similar equipment (We will train people are can demonstrate an ability and desire to learn!)
  • Physically Capable – Able to lift 50 pounds, climb in and out of equipment, and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Independent & Self-Motivated – Able to work alone on the road while staying organized and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong Communication Skills – Must be professional when interacting with clients and dispatch teams.
  • Mechanical Aptitude – Comfortable performing minor equipment repairs, such as changing hydraulic hoses and conducting safety inspections.

All positions with Akers Railroad Holdings LLC require a background check through the eRailSafe program to ensure compliance with railroad industry standards.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 per year
  • Daily Per Diem: $50/day for meals while traveling
